Most login questions come down to five things: where the page is, which sign-in method you're using, why the app logged you out, what to do if you're locked out, and who to ask when nothing else works. Here's all five, in order.
- Where to log in to Atera
- How to log in, step by step
- Passkeys and two-factor authentication
- Why Atera logged you out automatically
- Forgot your password
- "Failed to login" and blocked sign-in attempts
- Login problems on the Atera mobile app
- Clearing cache and cookies to fix a stuck login
- Still stuck? How to reach support
Where to log in to Atera
The Atera platform is accessed at app.atera.com/login — that's the one login page for technicians, admins and account owners alike, whether you manage a single internal IT department or a multi-client MSP book of business. There isn't a separate portal per region or plan; everyone signs in through the same page and lands in their own account once authenticated.
Bookmark this, not a search result
Typing "Atera login" into a search engine can surface outdated or unofficial links. Going straight to app.atera.com/login avoids that entirely.
How to log in, step by step
- Go to app.atera.com/login.
- Enter the email address associated with your Atera account and select Continue.
- On the next screen, enter your password (or choose a passkey/biometric option if you've set one up — more on that below).
- If two-factor authentication is enabled, enter the verification code when prompted.
- You'll land on your account's main dashboard once authentication completes.
By default, new accounts use what Atera calls "Basic" login — just an email and password. It works, but a couple of platform actions considered higher-risk (like uninstalling security software or editing scripts) are restricted under Basic login as an added safety measure, which is one more reason to move to stronger authentication once you're set up.
Passkeys and two-factor authentication
Beyond a password, Atera supports two stronger sign-in options:
- Two-factor authentication (2FA) — a one-time code, entered alongside your password, that confirms it's really you even if your password is ever compromised.
- Passkeys — a biometric or device-based sign-in (fingerprint, face recognition, or security key) that replaces typing a password entirely. Once you've created a passkey on a device, future logins are as simple as selecting "Continue with a passkey" and confirming with your fingerprint or face.
A password only proves you know something. A passkey proves you have something and are someone — that combination is a lot harder for anyone else to fake.
Both options are managed from your account's security settings after you've logged in with your existing credentials the first time. We'd recommend setting up at least one of them; Basic email-and-password login is the most convenient starting point, not the safest long-term one.
Why Atera logged you out automatically
If you were logged in and suddenly find yourself back at the login page, it's very likely by design rather than a bug. Atera automatically signs users out after roughly 24 hours of inactivity, or after 7 days of continuous active use, whichever comes first — and it shows a warning before doing so, rather than logging you out without notice. Simply logging back in with your usual credentials picks up right where you left off; no data or settings are affected.
Forgot your password
- From the login page, select Forgot Password.
- Enter the email address on your account.
- Check your inbox for a password reset email and follow the link inside it.
- Choose a new password and log in as usual.
If the reset email doesn't arrive within a few minutes, check your spam or junk folder before assuming something's wrong — automated security emails occasionally get filtered there. If it still doesn't show up, that's the point to contact support rather than repeatedly requesting new reset emails.
"Failed to login" and blocked sign-in attempts
Seeing a message like "Failed to login, please contact support" can be alarming, but it usually isn't an account lock or a breach — it's an automatic, temporary hold triggered by Atera's risk-based login protection. This tends to happen when you sign in from:
- A new or unrecognized device
- A different location or IP address than usual (including many VPNs)
- Any pattern the system flags as unusual login behavior
What to try first
Log in again from a device and network you've used successfully before. Account admins also receive an email with the details of the flagged attempt (device, location, IP) — worth checking before assuming the worst.
This protection is part of the stronger, identity-verification-based login security Atera uses under the hood, and the block is automatic and temporary rather than a manual suspension. If it persists after trying a familiar device and network, that's the right time to reach out to support directly.
Login problems on the Atera mobile app
The Atera mobile app (available for iOS and Android) supports both password and biometric sign-in. If you're having trouble logging in specifically through the app rather than the browser:
- Confirm links are set to open externally in your device's browser rather than an in-app view, which is a common source of login glitches on Android.
- Log out of the app, reopen it, and use the "open in browser" option on the initial screen if it's offered, so the authentication step runs in your default browser instead of the app's built-in view.
- On Android specifically, an outdated system WebView component can interfere with login — updating it via the Google Play Store resolves this in most cases.
- Fully close both the browser and the app afterward, then try the normal login flow again.
Clearing cache and cookies to fix a stuck login
If passkey setup or 2FA seems stuck in a loop — for example, a passkey prompt saying no passkey is available when you're sure you created one — a stale browser cache is a common culprit. Clearing stored data specifically for Atera's authentication domain usually resolves it:
- Right-click anywhere on the Atera login page and choose Inspect to open your browser's developer tools.
- Go to the Application (or Storage) tab.
- Open Local Storage, Session Storage and Cookies in turn, find any entry starting with
auth.atera, and clear it. - Close the tab, reopen app.atera.com/login, and sign in again.
Most "the login page is just broken" moments turn out to be a browser holding onto something it shouldn't. Clearing it is usually faster than it sounds.
Still stuck? How to reach support
If none of the above resolves it, don't keep retrying the same steps — reach out to Atera's support team directly via chat or email so they can look at what's happening on your specific account. Have the email address on your account and a rough time of the failed attempt ready; it speeds up the lookup considerably.
